BitComet packed full of exciting new features and the first to release a stable 64bit Bittorrent Client.

BitComet is a well established Bittorrent client, first released in 2003. Development was going well and its user base growing steadily until the dev team released version 0.60. This version included many new features including DHT which at the time was new. A bug in how the DHT technology was implemented meant that users were able to exploit the software to ignore the Private Flag used with Private Trackers and therefore access and use the tracker regardless of Upload/Download ratio. When the trackers found out what was happening they banned the client. The bug was squashed soon after, but it took quite some time for private trackers to take BitComet back on board.

Today, BitComet is one of the top clients around. The development team continues to implement exciting new features to better the download experience for it's users. Having released well over 60 versions, the latest v1.27 is the greatest yet. The highlights of this version are, that it is now available in both 64bit and 32bit, allows "Cross Protocol" downloading and LT-Seeding which vastly increases download speeds.

So what are all these new features?

LT-Seeding - Long Term Seeding is Bitcomets proprietary file sharing protocol. With this option enabled, BitComet clients can search for peers on the LT-Seeding network and in many cases greatly increase the speed of downloads. Many users have reported significant increase in download speed when using this feature. If a Bittorrent task is complete and has met it's seeding goal the task is stopped but remains available for LT-Seeding. These files are then made available to other BitComet peers that have LT-Seeding enabled. Therefore a BitComet peer could complete an unseeded or poorly seeded torrent.

Cross Protocol Downloading - This is probably one of the most exciting new features. A BitComet peer attempting to download a torrent where the entire swarm is stuck with incomplete files due to a lack of seeders can (in some cases) complete the download by connecting to other sources such as eMule, http/ftp, LTseed peers or even from a different torrent with all or some of the same content. In turn that user can then become a seeder allowing the rest of the swarm to complete the download.

64bit & 32bit versions - The BitComet development team analysed crash reports and discovered that many users have very large cache sizes. The 32bit version of Windows limits all software applications to a maximum of 2GB. When users approach thus limit the client becomes unstable and may crash. The 64bit version of the client allows cache sizes up to 16GB, allowing more than enough for today's technology.

These are the most notable new features in BitComet v1.27, however it contains many, many more. You can find full details over at www.BitComet.com

If you have yet to try BitComet, now is the best time to give it a shot!
