At least five people are dead and a U.S. congresswoman is fighting for her life after a gunman opened fire while she was holding a public event outside a Tucson grocery store, officials say.

U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, who was shot in the head, was among at least 10 people wounded in Saturday's shooting.

Dr. Peter Rhee of the University Medical Center in Tucson said he was "very optimistic" about Giffords's recovery.

A nine-year-old child and a federal judge were among those killed in the attack, officials said. The number of those killed remained unclear. U.S. President Barack Obama put the death toll at five but other officials said six people were killed.

no one really knows the mindset of an individual and when they become a ticking bomb, *the reality is * no where you live is safe.

sorry those peeps are dead tho, but what can be done? limit guns? they get into the wrong hands all the time, like that 10 year old boy who killed his mom recently with the rifle he got for xmas. *he didnt wanna do his chores or something*

the way i see it, sometimes you give it your all and shit, and someone is going to do something crazy.
i blame the mother of the 10 year old boy because she had no reason getting him a rifle or whatever he got for the holiday, how about a book?
