I have a friend that has a Linksys router (don't know which one) and a D-link usb adapter and can't get online with the adapter ( he can plugging into the router direct). The question is can you mix the two? I'm going over tomorrow to look at it and if the set up doesn't work, makes that easy. If does, any special tips or tricks for it or is it just normal and check his settings.
Thanks
also, a question I have, can you mix ' N ' and ' G ' rated router stuff?

The usb adapter should work with any brand router. As far as mixing the N and G, I am not positive, but I think they are backwards compatible, so N and G should work.
That said, I have run into combinations that just didn't want to play well together...........

The router may dictate what protocols it will handle. If he has it set for strict N for performance maybe G stuff doesn't work. My Dlink router is that way. I found this out the other day because my spanking new N router and my old POS Dlink wireless card could communicate. The card kept asking for WEP key, but I use WAP instead. No matter what I used it would accept it at the card. I even turned all the WAP off and went unprotected and it still would connect. Finally said screw it and dragged the box into the house from the garage..
