Symptoms for adults include obsessing about being on the computer, having games associated with intense feelings of pleasure and guilt, when computer time or video-game time that disrupts family, social and work life, and lying about computer and video-game use.
There are some physical symptoms, as well. Video-game addiction can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, sleep disturbances, back and neck aches, dry eyes, failure to eat properly and sometimes neglecting personal hygiene.
The National Institute on Media and Family says the first step to being healed is to recognize the symptoms. Help from a professional is often needed.
