Many of us rely on a multitude of news sources when trying to make heads or tails of what's going on in the world. As we have realized a long time ago, file-sharing is sorely mis-represented in the medias for obvious reasons. Depending who owns the means to spread the news we're served with whatever agenda conglomerates are pushing at the moment. We are all affected by this. Although not knowing exactly what charges P2PNet is facing, chances are that the interests served here is NOT of the average file-sharer so it's quite easy for us to put up a note of support.

Many that read through this thread may think that there somehow is reason to distrust Jon, to distrust some of the participants here or simply disregard the lot of us as loonies. I think that a lot of what has been said breathes of the distrust that has become so common among file-sharers. I've personally often thought about how little the big guns needs to do in order to dis-organize and split us up.
Some of us actually do trust other people. The way I trust whatever is published on Slyck, for instance. Granted, you may be considered gullible or a sheep or whatnot if not partaking in the cynical train - God knows we've been had quite a few times. And ironically, this collective state of mind is often exploited to counter-act whatever intelligentia that may find it's way out from our semi-closed circles into the "real world" where it actually may have a shot at making a difference.
My state of paranoia these days are aimed at those that plant dirt on whomever when things heat up within the file-sharing community. It might be perfectly reasonable accusations in the long run, but at first glance I always assume that those that cry the loudest against forming into a group of one voice of protest, are the ones planted by other interests represented than the file-sharing crowd. In some cases I'm wrong, but too often I'm right. And I think you all recognize this as well.
This is an internal head-locking very difficult to get away from, and so far it has managed to keep us docile and harmless for quite a while.
I choose to trust those that publically and tirelessly stick their noses out and challenge the powers that be. I would give my undivided support should anything befall on Slyck, for the same reason.

This sums up my sentiments completely. The discussion at Slyck is so off kilter as to be embarrasing. I can't for the life of me understand the direction it has taken. I am not critisizing Slyck, they just provide a place for discussion, but I am really getting tired of this mindset many have that they are "owed" something from people involved in providing content for filesharers, whether it is files or in this case news. Yet, the same people feel no responsibility to anyone when the hammer comes down and peoples lives are turned upside down for their involvement with P2P. I can only wonder what would motivate anyone in the future to stick their necks out if their ultimate reward is being pilloried by the very community they aim to serve.
As I have stated in the past, when a site runs into legal problems, there is a human cost involved seperate from any financial consequences. While we all slip into bed for a good nights sleep, these victims lay awake at night worrying about their future. While the authorities raid homes and confiscate computers, we merely move on to the next thing. We may curse them, but usually defiently shout, "Others will take the place of those they take down! They will never be able to stop P2P...." Well, guess what? It has gone from taking down sites like ShareReactor and Lokis to hitting a site which provides nothing but news with a little P2P cheerleading thrown in. No copyright infringement, no intellectual property, just thoughts, ideas, facts and opinions.
And there are those who would take the time to provoke others into thinking Jon had this coming, that we should not be surprised. That he somehow deserves to be brought down and we should feel smug and enjoy the show. That if he is unwilling to tell us everything, we can conclude that he is up to something and we are justified in talking smack about him.
Well, emma, you put things so eloquently and I am glad you were able to do so. But if P2PNet is sued into oblivion, my guess is it won't be long before you will find no place for your eloquence. ..........
