MPAA, RIAA also laud Operation Holiday Hoax

NEW YORK -- Congress agreed to provide $30 million in new funding for the battle against piracy as authorities on Monday also reported success with a recent year-end piracy crackdown code-named Operation Holiday Hoax.

The new funds target personnel and programs authorized by last year's Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act.

The funds include $20 million for new state and local economic, high technology and Internet crime prevention grants; $8 million for new FBI agents targeting IP crimes; and $2 million for new Department of Justice IP prosecutions.

"Congress took a major step forward by providing $30 million in funding for new FBI agents, federal prosecutors, and local and state law enforcement grants to protect American jobs and creativity by cracking down on the theft of movies and other intellectual property," MPAA chairman and CEO Dan Glickman said.

It's the Biden influence, I said up front I wasn't a Biden fan. There's a lot of things about my party I don't like, but it still beats the alternative, for me and mine anyway.

We knew this was coming, but 30 Mill is a drop in the bucket, big picture wise. (pardon the pun :P)

Your party.

That's all I'm gonna say, this isn't in the political forum, so I don't want to start any of our famous debates in the wild forum yonder. :P

yes $30 million just what we need to spend our taxpayers $$ on filesharing. These people need to understand that now that smartphones are getting popular, but have only about 16Gigs for apps/files they can make a huge revenue on stream all you can listen/watch music and movies. Netflix boxes like the Roku and many other systems like the PS3 can stream from the net. So Piracy could be irrelevant as the artists would get paid via ads.
:
Don't forget that Groveshark allows free streaming music with an ad banner so all they need is an app for the Blackberry storm, iPhone, Droid and your all set.
