Lewos' series of books chronicling the fictional land of Narnia. Aslan formed in 1982 in their hometown areas of Finglas and Ballymun in Dublin's north side. But it wasn't until 1986 when the bands first single started the rise to success. In May 1986, the lads released a demo "This Is", whiched proved to be an instant hit and became the longest ever playlisted song on Irish radio, 2FM. During that summer the band went over the waters to gig around the UK. Melody Maker said about the band "Lucky the label that signs this band". Also that year the band walked away with the Stag/Hot Press Most Promising New Band Award. In 1988, the recorded their debut album "Feel No Shame" at Westland Studios in Dublin. It went straight into number 1!!! It was certified gold. During the hype of the band's near international explosion, they split amid huge press speculation due to lead singer Christy Dignam's addiction to Herion. In the next few years members of the band went their own ways musically (Precious Stones, Dignam & Goff etc.) On July 11th 1993, the band were to reform for what was supposed to be a once off in Finglas. They went onto release "Crazy World" (which this site was named after) and entered the charts at number 4 and stayed in the charts for 3 months. It was one of the most played singles of the year and won Single Of The Year in 1993's Hot Press awards. Soon enough, the bands follow up single "Where's The Sun?" was released and hit number 3. 1994 was spent touring and promoting their album "Goodbye Charlie Moonhead" which was that year and went gold. 1995 was pretty much taken up by touring - England, Ireland and America as well as writing their third album. They also won Best Band in the Smithwicks/Hot Press Awards. This award has only ever been won by two bands, the other being a little known band called U2. April 1996 and the band went into the studio to record "Here Comes Lucy Jones". It was released over a year later and entered the charts at number 14. Alsan had their biography written called "Aslan's Crazy World" (similar to this site's name, I know) and was released on 24th March 1998 and went on to become a best seller and was written by Damien Coreless. Aslan released a more remixed version of their debut "This Is" which went into the charts at number 7 and was featured on their album "Shame About Lucy Moonhead" which was the band's Best Of... It was released on 19th July that year and went into the charts at number 1 and has since went double platinum. March 1999 seen Aslan do a run of sell out gigs in Vicar Street, Dublin, where they recorded possibly one of the finest live albums ever made in my opinion, "Made In Dublin". It was to become an album/video and was launched by An Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Bertie Ahern on Sept 1st 1999 and both went to number 1. The album was rereleased as a double CD/DVD pack in 2003. Aslan finished off 1999 with a trip to The Point Depot (8,000+ arena in Dublin). Summer 2000, and the band tour Australia and sell out shows in Sydney and Melbourne. Aslan end the year by performing in The Point Depot again, after a sell out show in Holland. In 2001 Aslan went into Westland Studios, where they recorded "Feel No Shame" so many years before and went on to record what would become the album "Waiting For The Madness To End...". But before the release of the album the band released "She's So Beautiful", which featured Sinead O'Connor on guest vocals and hit the chart in number 9. "Different Man" was then released around the time of the band's return to the Point Depot on July 28th 2001 (which I was drunkenly at). The single was in the charts at number 7. By September 21st 2001, the album was released and the band palyed in Vicar Street at the time it was number 1. Following week, it remained at number 1 and at the same time kept Kylie off number 1!!! Christamas 2001 and the band sell out the Point (again). 2002 and the band played in Camden and recieve an award for Best Contemporary Irish Band from Irish World Newspaper in London. May 10th seen the release of the single "Six Days To Zero" which was in the shops at the time Aslan played three sell out nights for unplugged shows at ther Olympia Theatre. 2003 seen the band rerelease "Made In Dublin" CD/DVD pack, as I said earlier and the band went to Glasgow, Manchester and London to promote it. 2004 will tell itself. For the meantime lets just enjoy the music.
